Danish Customs Seizes Thousands of Counterfeit Labubu Dolls

Thousands of counterfeit Labubu dolls were seized by Danish Customs in July. The dolls were discovered in four shipments and were confirmed to be fakes by the toy manufacturer Pop Mart.

The counterfeit goods were stopped by Danish Customs (Toldstyrelsen) because they turned out to be copies, according to a press release from the Ministry of Taxation (Skatteministeriet).

The Labubu doll has become a popular collector’s item recently, gaining traction on social media platforms like TikTok. Its appeal has been boosted by endorsements from celebrities, including singer Rihanna, media personality Kim Kardashian, and singer Dua Lipa. The doll has a distinctive look, with a small, furry body, large eyes, pointed ears, and a devilish smile.

Minister of Taxation Rasmus Stoklund expressed satisfaction that the counterfeit dolls were intercepted. He emphasized the importance of preventing the distribution of such goods, highlighting the violation of rights holders and the potential risks to consumers regarding product quality and safety standards.

Following confirmation from Pop Mart, the company behind the dolls, that the seized items were indeed counterfeit, the fake Labubu dolls were destroyed.

Pop Mart has experienced significant growth, with profits increasing by 385 percent in the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The rising popularity of Labubu dolls has led to a surge in counterfeit products, often referred to as “Lafufu.” Authentic Labubu dolls are priced between 475 and 700 kroner, while limited edition dolls can be resold for thousands of kroner. In June, a special Labubu doll was sold for almost 980,000 kroner at an auction house in Beijing, China.
