Danish Crown faces a Supreme Court appeal regarding its potential liability for three employees contracting COVID-19 at the Ringsted slaughterhouse in 2020. The Appeals Permission Board granted Danish Crown permission to appeal the High Court’s partial ruling.
The Eastern High Court previously ruled in January that Danish Crown is liable for the COVID-19 infection to which the three employees were exposed. The three employees, consisting of a master craftsman and two service technicians, tested positive for COVID-19 in July and August 2020, and their illnesses have been recognized as occupational injuries.
The lawsuit, filed by the Food Federation NNF, alleges that management was aware of problematic conditions in production but failed to implement sufficient measures to reduce the risk of infection spread among production employees, according to the High Court’s assessment. The Court in Roskilde initially referred the liability question to the High Court due to its fundamental importance.
The amount of compensation to be awarded will be determined at a later date.
