Danish consumers increasingly buying goods from China through Temu and Shein

A recent study indicates a significant portion of the Danish population is engaging in online shopping with Chinese retailers, particularly Temu and Shein. This trend highlights the growing influence of these platforms in the Danish e-commerce market.

According to data from Nets, the company behind the Dankort (Danish debit card), 19% of all Danes have made purchases from Chinese online stores. This figure represents almost one-fifth of the entire Danish population.

These purchases are primarily being made through the popular platforms Temu and Shein, which offer a wide range of goods at competitive prices.

Further research conducted by Dansk Erhverv, a prominent business and employers’ organization, reinforces this observation. Their study from September 2024 reveals that Temu has become the second most popular online store among Danish consumers.

Temu is only surpassed by Zalando, the established German online retailer. This signifies the rapid rise and widespread adoption of Temu in the Danish market.
