Danish Composer Per Nørgård Has Died at 92

Danish composer Per Nørgård has died at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday night surrounded by his loved ones, according to a press release from his music publisher, Edition Wilhelm Hansen.

Nørgård was a highly acclaimed composer, having created hundreds of works throughout his career. He earned comparisons to Carl Nielsen and received numerous prestigious awards, both in Denmark and internationally.

Among his accolades were Léonie Sonning’s Music Prize and the Sibelius Prize in Denmark. In 2014, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra awarded Nørgård a prize that included a monetary award of approximately one million kroner.

Born on July 13, 1932, Nørgård leaves behind a significant legacy in the world of classical music.
