Danish Company to Launch Rocket into Space with ESA Collaboration

EuroSpaceport, an Esbjerg-based company, plans to launch a rocket into space from the Danish part of the North Sea in the summer of 2026, marking a potential first for offshore rocket launches in Europe. The company has partnered with the European Space Agency (ESA), securing both validation and financial support for the project.

The launch will involve transporting an 11-meter rocket, produced by Polish partner SpaceForest, 75 kilometers off the coast of Esbjerg on a barge. The rocket will ascend 150 kilometers into the atmosphere before descending via parachute.

EuroSpaceport aims to establish itself as a key European spaceport, offering an alternative to existing land-based facilities and overseas options. Nicolas Kristoffersen, founder and director, envisions Esbjerg becoming the “airport of space travel.”

The collaboration with ESA is considered a major milestone, confirming the viability of the space plans. This partnership also places EuroSpaceport in a competitive European space race.

The initial launch will be used for research and to demonstrate the feasibility of commercial offshore rocket launches. The long-term goal is to launch larger rockets with satellites, making the North Sea a leading European hub for space launches and landings.

EuroSpaceport differentiates itself by utilizing the North Sea and the existing supply chain in Esbjerg. The company is collaborating with major Danish companies such as Blue Water Shipping, Semco Maritime, and Esvagt.

The launch was initially planned for 2024 or 2025 but was delayed due to extensive testing, regulatory processes, and financing considerations. Kristoffersen believes the ESA collaboration will aid in securing necessary investments.
