Thousands of individuals participated in the latest Danish citizenship test held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 46 language centers nationwide. A total of 6320 people were registered for this session of the test, which is a mandatory requirement for foreigners seeking Danish citizenship.
The citizenship test, administered twice annually, assesses applicants’ knowledge of Danish society, culture, and history. To pass, individuals must correctly answer at least 36 out of the 45 questions within a 45-minute time frame, including a minimum of four out of the five questions specifically addressing Danish values.
The test comprises different types of questions. Thirty-five questions are drawn from freely available learning materials that cover Danish social norms, cultural aspects, and historical events. Additionally, five questions focus on current affairs, potentially touching on recent political or cultural developments. The remaining five questions delve into Danish values, such as freedom of speech, equality, and the relationship between religion and politics. Each question presents two or three possible answers.
It is important to note that the citizenship test differs from the civic integration test, which is a prerequisite for obtaining a permanent residency permit in Denmark. Registration for the citizenship test costs 905 kroner. Those who do not pass have the option to retake the test during the subsequent testing period, subject to another payment.
