Daniel Wass Appointed New Brøndby Captain

Daniel Wass has been named the new captain of Brøndby IF, according to the Superliga club’s official website. This decision follows the departure of former captain Jacob Rasmussen, who was sold to Red Bull Salzburg in June.

Head coach Frederik Birk highlighted Wass’s extensive experience and history with Brøndby IF as key factors in the appointment. Birk emphasized Wass’s role as a “natural and strong representative” for the club, citing his long history at Brøndby IF combined with great international experience.

While Wass leads the team on the field, he is supported by a leadership group consisting of Nicolai Vallys, Sean Klaiber, Patrick Pentz, and reserve goalkeeper Thomas Mikkelsen. In Wass’s absence, Vallys or Klaiber will assume the captaincy. Birk emphasized the importance of the entire captain group, describing them as “central to our way of working.”

The appointment marks a shift from last year when Wass was passed over for the captaincy by then-coach Jesper Sørensen. At the time, Wass acknowledged his disappointment, stating that it was “hard” and that he would have liked to have been captain.

The 36-year-old midfielder has played 200 first-team matches for Brøndby since his debut 18 years ago.
