The Danish Agency for Digitalisation is facing significant criticism from the Data Protection Agency due to errors that occurred during the transition of the Digital Post IT solution to a new supplier in 2022. The errors impacted citizens’ access to digital mailboxes.
During the 2022 supplier change, where Netcompany took over the development and operation of the Digital Post solution, issues arose during data migration. The Danish Agency for Digitalisation described this migration as one of Denmark’s largest ever, involving the transfer of 160 terabytes of data and 1.4 billion documents.
The errors specifically affected read access and subscriptions to Digital Post. Some citizens who previously had read access to a relative’s or company’s mailbox had their access incorrectly reactivated. Conversely, others had their read access incorrectly removed, preventing them from reading letters on behalf of others.
The Danish Agency for Digitalisation attributes the errors to insufficient testing of specific scenarios and misunderstandings between the previous and new suppliers. The agency states that these errors have been continuously corrected and that measures have been implemented at Netcompany to minimize the risk of future errors during system updates and changes.
Digital Post serves as a joint public IT solution for secure digital communication between authorities, citizens, and businesses. Citizens and businesses can access their digital mail from authorities through platforms like the Digital Post app, e-Boks.dk, or Mit.dk.
