Copenhagen’s Former Police Station to Become Apartment Hotel

Copenhagen’s iconic former police station, Station City, located at Halmtorvet 20 in Vesterbro, is set to be transformed into a 169-room apartment hotel. The building, known as Borgenhus, was sold by Danish owners to Swedish capital fund Slättö, marking a new chapter for the property after serving as a police station for 30 years.

Renovation of the nine-story building, originally designed by architect Frederik Bojesen in the early 1960s, is scheduled to commence in 2026, with a planned reopening in 2027. The building has been closed since the Copenhagen Police relocated to Toftegårds Plads in Valby last year.

Slättö, the investor, has entrusted the management of the apartment hotel to Bob W, a Finnish company that already operates a hotel in Copenhagen and has a presence in ten European countries. Bob W aims to cater to travelers seeking sustainable, design-focused, and culturally rich experiences.

Real estate agents Colliers facilitated the sale and emphasized that the renovation will preserve the building’s distinctive design and architectural features, maintaining its historical significance within the Vesterbro neighborhood. The company highlighted that the sale signifies a new era for the well-known property, which has been an integral part of Vesterbro’s landscape for generations.

The transformation of the former Station City represents a significant shift for the Halmtorvet area, moving away from its past association with the city’s red-light district and embracing a new identity as a modern hospitality destination.
