The Municipality of Copenhagen is allocating approximately half a billion kroner to address failing grades in Danish and mathematics among public school students. The investment aims to improve student outcomes by implementing a two-teacher model in classrooms and reducing teacher turnover in the city.
The high failure rates in these core subjects have prompted the significant financial commitment. Officials hope that having two teachers per classroom will provide more individualized attention and support for students struggling with Danish and math.
Teacher retention is also a key focus of the initiative. The funding will support efforts to make teaching positions in Copenhagen more attractive, thereby reducing the rate at which educators leave the city’s public schools. This will, in turn, provide stability and consistency for students.
