Copenhagen Allocates Significant Funds to Public Schools

The Municipality of Copenhagen is increasing its investment in the public school system by DKK 150 million per year for the next four years. This funding aims to enhance resources and support for students and educators across the city.

The decision to allocate these funds reflects a commitment to improving the learning environment and providing additional support for students. The investment will fund transition educators in all schools, ensure the presence of two adults in lower-grade classrooms, and provide more time for developing learning environments.

The allocation of funds will also bolster leadership capacity within schools and provide resources for skills development among educators. These measures aim to improve the quality of education and support the overall development of students.

The announcement follows concerns raised about a planned expansion at Peder Lykke School. The municipality clarified that no students at Peder Lykke School will lose access to special needs programs due to the cancellation of the expansion. The decision to cancel the construction was based on updated needs forecasts, which indicated sufficient capacity at existing schools.

The municipality emphasized that it would be inefficient to build new facilities when vacant spaces are available in other schools. The funds saved by canceling the construction will be redirected to supporting children’s education. The city will continue to maintain ten special needs schools in Copenhagen to provide specialized support for students who require it.
