Continuous Hiking Trail Along Gudenå River to Open in Spring 2026

A continuous hiking trail stretching from Tinnet Krat near Give to Randers Fjord along the Gudenå River is expected to open in the spring of 2026. The completion of this path will allow hikers to traverse the entire route.

The trail is a collaborative effort between the Danish Nature Agency and eight municipalities: Vejle, Hedensted, Horsens, Skanderborg, Silkeborg, Viborg, Favrskov, and Randers. The project has also received support from the Nordea Foundation and the A.P. Møller Foundation.

While sections of the hiking trail already exist, the goal is to create a seamless and continuous path. Improvements to the existing paths and the implementation of uniform signage are also planned.

Gunhild Øeby Nielsen, network coordinator in the Gudenå Collaboration, told Politiken that there is significant interest in the hiking route. She believes it will be a valuable asset and a recognizable brand, as most people are familiar with the Gudenå River.

The hope is to have the path completed by New Year’s, with an official inauguration planned for the spring of 2026. The Gudenå River is Denmark’s longest river.
