Continued Detention for Two Foreign Nationals in Aarhus Watch Store Robbery Case

Two foreign nationals will remain in custody in connection with the violent robbery of a watch store in Aarhus and the subsequent handling of stolen goods. The Western High Court upheld the district court’s decision to keep the two men detained pending trial.

The ruling, delivered on Friday, concerns two men, a 62-year-old from Serbia and a 36-year-old from the Netherlands, who are charged with possessing the pistol used in the robbery and handling 25 of the 62 stolen Omega and Rolex watches. The prosecutor argued successfully that there was a risk the men would flee or interfere with the ongoing police investigation.

Four men in total have been arrested in connection with the May 23 robbery of Kejser Aarhus on Rosensgade, following arrest operations in Southern Jutland on Wednesday evening. Two of the men, both from Montenegro, are accused of carrying out the robbery, during which the store owner was held at gunpoint and he and an employee were restrained with zip ties.

The robbers made off with approximately 5 million kroner worth of watches. The case is reminiscent of other violent watch store robberies where the perpetrators have been traced to traveling groups from the Balkans. In a previous case, a Serbian man convicted of watch robberies in Austria and Denmark testified that a Copenhagen robbery had been planned in Serbia.
