Two foreign men will remain in custody following a decision by the Western High Court upholding the city court’s ruling on pre-trial detention in connection with the violent robbery of a watch store in Aarhus. The men are implicated in the robbery and subsequent handling of stolen watches.
The ruling, announced Friday by prosecutor Casper Nørgaard Petersen of East Jutland Police, affects two of the four men currently detained in the case. The four men, aged 27 to 62, are all deprived of their liberty.
The two men in question are charged with directly carrying out the robbery against Kejser Aarhus on Rosensgade, which occurred on the morning of May 23. The other two men face charges related to the possession of the pistol used in the robbery and the handling of 25 of the 62 stolen watches. The stolen watches were Omega and Rolex brands.
The High Court’s decision to uphold the pre-trial detention is based on concerns that the men pose a flight risk and could potentially influence the ongoing police investigation.
During the robbery, the store owner was threatened with a pistol pressed against his neck, and both he and an employee were restrained with zip ties and held in the back room. The perpetrators stole watches valued at approximately five million kroner.
The court hearing on Thursday in Aarhus required the use of interpreters to translate proceedings into Montenegrin, Serbian, and Dutch.
