Conservative People’s Party Proposes “Traffic Light Model” to Limit Immigration

The Conservative People’s Party in Denmark has proposed a new immigration policy based on a “traffic light model” to limit labor immigration, particularly from MENAPT countries (Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, and Turkey). This proposal aims to address the increasing labor immigration from these regions, which the party views as detrimental to Danish culture and cohesion.

The proposal comes after reports indicated a significant increase in labor immigration from MENAPT countries in 2024, despite government promises of stricter immigration controls. The “traffic light model” would categorize countries into green, yellow, and red zones, with immigration restricted from red zone countries, primarily those in the MENAPT region.

The Conservative People’s Party is critical of the current Social Democratic government’s handling of immigration and also targets a previous alliance, known as KLAR, between the Conservatives, Liberal Alliance, and the Radical Left. This alliance had previously advocated for welcoming all workers to Denmark, provided they were employed under collective agreements and were not criminals. The Conservatives now seek to distance themselves from this stance, emphasizing the importance of cultural considerations in immigration policy.

The party argues that cultural and societal factors should outweigh purely economic considerations in immigration policy. They express concern that importing a large number of people from cultures with different values will undermine Denmark’s cultural foundation and social cohesion.

The Confederation of Danish Industry and the Danish Chamber of Commerce, powerful players in Danish politics, are criticized for advocating for labor at any cost. The Conservative People’s Party suggests that national responsibility requires setting clear limits on where international labor is recruited from, with a specific focus on halting immigration from MENAPT countries. The party believes that future generations have a right to a Denmark that is not only economically sound but also culturally sustainable.
