Concerns Arise Over Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Efforts and Potential Agreement Breach with Denmark

Denmark is seeking clarification from Ukraine regarding potential breaches of an agreement related to anti-corruption efforts. The agreement stipulates Ukraine’s commitment to allocating resources to independent anti-corruption institutions and promoting anti-corruption across all sectors.

Transparency International’s chairman in Denmark, Jesper Olsen, expressed concern, stating that President Zelenskyy owes an explanation to donor countries like Denmark regarding the state of independent anti-corruption bodies. Olsen emphasized the necessity of these independent authorities and called for information from Ukrainian authorities to ensure continued independence.

The Danish government is closely monitoring the situation. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated that it is crucial for Ukraine to adhere to its reform work and anti-corruption efforts, particularly concerning its path to EU membership.

Despite concerns, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not commented on whether Zelenskyy’s recent actions constitute a breach of the bilateral agreement with Denmark, nor has it specified the implications for Danish donations, which total 67.6 billion DKK in military support and 6.4 billion DKK in civilian support since the start of the war. The Ministry of Defense, which is in the process of inviting Ukrainian arms manufacturers to Denmark, has also not addressed questions about the situation.
