Concerns regarding the safety of producing rocket fuel near Skrydstrup Air Base were a central theme at a town hall meeting on Saturday, according to Haderslev Municipality Mayor Mads Skau. The meeting, attended by over 300 citizens, featured Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen and Business Minister Morten Bødskov answering questions about the planned production.
Skau acknowledged that citizens expressed considerable apprehension about the safety measures surrounding the production and storage of rocket fuel. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that safety is prioritized, even with the project’s accelerated timeline.
The Ukrainian defense company’s plan to commence production as early as December near the air base, home to Danish fighter jets, was unveiled on Wednesday.
Skau welcomed the ministers’ assurance that safety would not be compromised. He stated that further town hall meetings will be organized in the near future to address ongoing concerns.
Skau affirmed the municipality’s commitment to a collaborative oversight approach with the state, emphasizing the need for open dialogue to foster public confidence.
Regarding the feasibility of launching production by December, Skau refrained from making an assessment but acknowledged the urgency of the situation could potentially expedite the process.
