Kasper Elsvad, Clara Tauson’s boyfriend and coach, has acknowledged the skepticism surrounding their coaching collaboration within the tennis world. Despite the initial doubts, Tauson’s recent success suggests the partnership is working.
Elsvad noted that while no one explicitly criticized the decision, he could sense reservations about his appointment. The tennis world often favors experienced coaches with established reputations, contrasting with Elsvad’s background as a relatively unknown club coach in Denmark.
Tauson previously worked with renowned coach Carlos Martinez and Lars Christensen. Elsvad recognized that he was an unconventional choice, lacking extensive experience in the professional tennis circuit. His existing relationship with Tauson and his availability at the time contributed to her decision.
Elsvad has been coaching Tauson for over six months, navigating the WTA Tour. He is acclimating to the higher level of competition, finding similarities between his current role and his previous coaching position in Denmark.
Tauson’s performance has improved under Elsvad’s guidance. Her achievements include winning the Auckland tournament and reaching the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai, propelling her into the world’s top-25 rankings.
Tauson secured a victory against Magda Linette in the first round of the French Open. She is scheduled to face Arantxa Rus in the second round.
