Church Furniture Thefts Lead to Arrests in Denmark

Several individuals have been arrested in Denmark following a series of burglaries targeting churches in Jutland and Funen. South East Jutland Police confirmed the arrests and the discovery of furniture believed to be stolen from 23 different churches.

The investigation began after a citizen reported a suspicion of possessing stolen goods. The police operation culminated in searches of multiple addresses in the Kolding and Fredericia areas, leading to the arrests.

Three individuals are charged in connection with the thefts: two men, both 37 years old and from Kolding, and a 35-year-old woman from Fredericia. One of the men and the woman are charged with burglary in 23 churches, while the other man is charged with participating in six burglaries. A 36-year-old woman has also been charged with buying furniture originating from the burglaries.

The primary items stolen from the churches were chairs. The thefts occurred in various towns across Jutland and Funen, including Vamdrup, Brande, Hobro, and Søndersø.

Authorities do not rule out the possibility that the arrested individuals may be connected to additional burglaries. Police are continuing their investigation, including the potential for charging more individuals with receiving stolen goods.

The detainees are scheduled to appear in court in Kolding.
