A 41-year-old man from Chechnya has been sentenced to prison and deportation from Denmark for terrorizing his ex-wife and four children. The man received a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence and a 12-year entry ban following a ruling by the Court in Lyngby.
The court found the man partially guilty on six counts, including gross physical and psychological violence, threats, and rape against his former wife and children. The crimes spanned four years, from 2018 to 2022, and occurred in the family’s homes in Middelfart, Greve, and Birkerød.
The court highlighted the severe nature of the violence and found the testimonies of the ex-wife and children credible. The ex-wife testified that the violence began in 2005, shortly after their marriage.
The man was convicted of rape, which included choking, hair pulling, and slapping. He also forced her to perform oral sex against her will. Additionally, he poured boiling water down her back and stabbed her in the scalp with a fork.
Regarding his children, he was found guilty of forcing a child’s head onto a table, hitting her in the stomach, and hitting another daughter with a thrown glass. He also threatened his ex-wife with a knife on multiple occasions. He reportedly told his children that he wished they had not been born and expressed hatred towards girls.
The man’s defense attorney immediately appealed the judgment to the high court, including the decision to maintain his custody. The prosecutor argued that releasing the 41-year-old would be irresponsible given the severity of the crimes. The judge agreed and ordered his continued detention.
The 41-year-old man is also required to pay his ex-wife DKK 120,000 in compensation.
