A new Danish translation of the Bible, slated for release in 2036, will feature significant changes in wording and inclusivity. The Danish Bible Society announced that the updated version will use the term “corpse” instead of “body” when referring to Jesus, among other modifications.

The translation aims to resonate with future generations while remaining faithful to the original text. According to Johannes Baun, Secretary General of the Danish Bible Society, language evolves, requiring fresh expressions to convey the same meaning.

One key aspect of the revision involves a greater emphasis on gender neutrality. The new translation plans to include women more prominently in the text. As an example, Paul’s greetings to the congregation in Philippi will now address “sisters” alongside “brothers,” whereas previously only the latter were mentioned.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2036, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in Denmark.
