Carlsberg Reports Deepfake Videos to Police

Carlsberg is reporting fake videos circulating on Facebook to the police, where a manipulated video of Jacob Aarup-Andersen is used to lure people into a scam promising large financial gains. The company is actively working to remove the videos and has engaged with law enforcement.

The deepfake videos feature what appears to be Jacob Aarup-Andersen offering access to a platform that supposedly predicts the stock market, promising viewers significant income with minimal effort if they share their information on a website. These videos falsely claim individuals can earn 300,000 kroner without any work.

Several other prominent Danish executives, including Vincent Clerc, CEO of Mærsk, and Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen, CEO of Novo Nordisk, have been misused in similar deepfake scams.

According to IT security expert Jørn Guldberg, the increasing realism of deepfake videos, coupled with a lack of public awareness, contributes to their effectiveness.

Caroline Stage, Minister for Digitalisation, has criticized tech companies like Facebook for not adequately addressing the issue and stated that it is “shocking” that tech giants are not putting a stop to it. She has pledged to continue pressing them to take responsibility.

Meta, the company behind Facebook, claims it is working to combat the spread of deepfake videos through measures like facial recognition technology and removing misleading ads, accounts, and pages.
