Bubber Reflects on Being Fired from TV 2 After 21 Years

Niels Christian Meyer, known as Bubber, recalls the painful experience of being fired from TV 2 in 2004 after an advertising misstep, a moment that led to personal and professional turmoil. He reflects on the events leading up to his dismissal, the media frenzy that followed, and the profound impact it had on his life.

Bubber describes the devastating impact on his family and the feeling of being publicly shamed. He remembers the initial shock and humiliation, compounded by the media attention and the feeling of lost identity.

Bubber’s firing stemmed from his appearance in an advertisement for a restaurant chain, Jensens Bøfhus, while also serving as an editor for TV 2’s Children & Youth department. This violated the TV station’s policy regarding conflicts of interest and the independence of its hosts.

Following his dismissal, Bubber felt isolated and uncertain about his future. He likened the experience to being a sailor in a storm, needing to weather the crisis and repair the damage. However, he eventually received a call from his former boss, offering him freelance work on several programs, including “Snurre Snups Søndagsklub” and “The Stage is Yours.”

Bubber now views his firing as a valuable lesson, emphasizing the importance of making the best of challenging situations. He believes that even in the face of adversity, there is an opportunity for growth and new beginnings, provided one maintains a clear conscience. He emphasizes that being fired can be a catalyst for change and self-discovery.
