Brøndby IF has bolstered its left-back options with the acquisition of 27-year-old German player Mats Köhlert from Dutch club Heerenveen. Köhlert has signed a four-year contract with the Danish team.
Football director Benjamin Schmedes stated that Köhlert is a player they have been monitoring for a considerable time and praised his strong season in the Netherlands. Schmedes believes Köhlert will bring speed, attacking prowess, and a robust mentality to the team, aligning well with Brøndby’s desired style and culture.
Köhlert, who has experience as a winger, sees himself as best suited to an offensive full-back or wing-back role. He expressed his ambition to compete for trophies and participate in European matches, viewing Brøndby IF as an ideal platform to achieve these goals.
Köhlert emphasized that his personal ambitions align with those of Brøndby IF, as his desire to compete for titles drove him to play football.
Köhlert’s arrival increases competition for the left-back position, where he will compete with players such as Marko Divkovic and Clement Bischoff. Prior to joining Brøndby, Köhlert played for Willem II and Heerenveen in the Netherlands, as well as Hamburger SV in Germany.
