Nikolaj Sommer has been named the new executive editor of Børsen, and Jesper Buchvald will take over as CEO. The appointments follow Bjarne Corydon’s departure, who is set to become the director-general of DR on August 1st.
Børsen’s chairman, Peter Fellman, expressed confidence in the new leadership, stating that Buchvald and Sommer form a strong management team capable of building upon the newspaper’s established position in the Danish market.
Corydon’s previous role encompassed both executive editor and CEO responsibilities, which will now be divided into two separate positions.
Sommer, who previously served as acting editor-in-chief, has been with Børsen since 2018, holding positions such as news editor and editor-in-chief. He also began his journalistic career at Børsen in the early 2000s, later working for DR, the Ministry of Finance, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sommer expressed his pride in assuming the top journalistic role at Børsen, highlighting the strength and competence of the newspaper’s employees and their potential for future growth.
Buchvald has been a member of Børsen’s board since 2017 and has served as the CEO of Bonnier Publications since 2016. Bonnier Publications, like Børsen, is owned by the Swedish media group Bonnier News. Buchvald will continue his role as CEO of Bonnier Publications alongside his new responsibilities at Børsen.
The announcement of Corydon’s departure from Børsen to lead DR was made at the end of April. Corydon had been the head of Børsen since 2018.
