Danish musician and author Benjamin Koppel has announced the cancellation of several upcoming concerts and literary events due to neuroborreliosis, a form of Lyme disease. The 51-year-old revealed his diagnosis in an Instagram post, accompanied by a picture of a tick.
Neuroborreliosis, an inflammation of the nerves, is transmitted to humans through tick bites, according to the Statens Serum Institut.
Koppel is a celebrated figure in the music world, renowned as a saxophonist and composer with an extensive discography of nearly 70 albums, primarily featuring his original compositions. He achieved literary success in 2022 with his debut novel, “Annas sang,” which sold over 125,000 copies and received numerous awards.
His literary accomplishments continued with the novel “Sommerfuglens stemme” (The Butterfly’s Voice), a multi-generational family history of the Jewish Koppelman family, which earned him De Gyldne Laurbær (The Golden Laurels) book prize in the spring.
