Appeal of Hjallerup Murder Case Verdict

The State Prosecutor in Viborg has decided to appeal the Hjallerup murder case verdict to the Western High Court, seeking indefinite detention for the defendant instead of the initial 12-year prison sentence. This decision follows the Hjørring District Court’s guilty verdict earlier this month for the murder and rape of a 13-year-old girl in March 2024.

The prosecution’s demand for indefinite detention is based on a recommendation from the Medico-Legal Council, citing the defendant’s dangerousness. State Prosecutor Jakob Berger Nielsen emphasized the gravity of the case and the Medico-Legal Council’s assessment of the perpetrator’s dangerousness as the reasons for the appeal.

The defendant, who was 17 years old at the time of the crime, was found guilty of both murder and rape by the Hjørring District Court.
