Andreas Christensen’s return improves national team’s World Cup qualification chances

The return of defender Andreas Christensen is seen as a major boost to the national team’s chances of qualifying for the next World Cup. His recent performance, including a clean sheet against Greece and a goal, has impressed teammates and coaches alike.

Fellow defender Joachim Andersen expressed his admiration for Christensen’s impact, noting the invaluable calm he brings to the team. Andersen emphasized the significance of the team’s stability and the security provided by Christensen’s presence, particularly after securing clean sheets in consecutive games against Scotland and Greece. “We have played many games together, and it is nice and reassuring to have him back,” said Andersen. “It means a lot that we have played two games here without conceding a goal, it shows that we are stable, and it gives a wonderful security for the team.”

Rasmus Nissen Kristensen echoed the sentiment, lauding Christensen as the best football player in Denmark. Joakim Mæhle also highlighted the positive impact of having a player of Christensen’s quality back in the national team, particularly noting the added bonus of his goal-scoring contribution. “For me, he is the best football player in Denmark, so it was great to have him back,” says Rasmus Nissen Kristensen. “It is nice to have a player with that quality back on the national team. And it is extra nice that he spices up his performance with a goal,” adds Joakim Mæhle.

National coach Brian Riemer expressed his delight at Christensen’s return, emphasizing the team’s enhanced strength with him in the lineup. Riemer acknowledged Christensen as one of the best defenders in the world when in top form, highlighting the universal desire among coaches to have such a player available for World Cup qualification efforts. “When he is in top form, he is one of the best defenders in the world, and I doubt there is a national coach who would not like to have one of the best defenders in the world with them when trying to qualify for the World Cup. That also applies to Brian Riemer, so I am super happy that he is back,” says Riemer.

Christensen has now played 75 national team matches and scored four goals.
