Afghan Man Convicted of Manslaughter After Deportation Order

Milad Sadiqi, an Afghan man who arrived in Denmark in 2001, has been found guilty of negligent manslaughter in the death of a mother of two. The incident occurred while Sadiqi was residing at Udrejsecenter Kærshovedgård (Departure Center Kærshovedgård), awaiting deportation. He has appealed the verdict.

The fatal accident took place one early April morning over a year ago. Sadiqi, who had cannabis in his blood and a revoked driver’s license, ran over and killed Beate Anders.

Sadiqi’s case is noteworthy because he was issued a deportation order in 2021. However, due to the Danish government’s lack of cooperation with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, he cannot be deported.

Sadiqi’s criminal record includes prior convictions for attempted extortion, violence, drug driving, possession of hash, and making threats. Two years prior, he was sentenced to one year in prison and deportation with a six-year entry ban. While incarcerated, he committed violence against a fellow inmate and threatened a man with a paintball gun, demanding money.

Growing up in the challenged residential area of Skovparken in Kolding, Sadiqi’s lawyer disputes claims that he was a gang member with ties to the banned group Loyal to Familia. Skovparken was previously known for gang activity and drug-related issues.

According to his lawyer, Sadiqi arrived in Denmark with his family and attended Danish schools. He speaks only Danish and has worked as a waiter. He is unmarried and has no children. Sadiqi fears for his life if deported to Afghanistan, a country where he has no family or friends.
