North Jutland Police reported a generally positive Aalborg Carnival, with the majority of participants contributing to a festive atmosphere. The event, held for the 43rd time and attracting around 100,000 visitors, experienced a few minor incidents.
Police made eight arrests during the carnival, primarily for minor offenses such as violations of public order regulations, intoxicated behavior, and a few instances of violence. All those arrested have since been released. Additionally, “a number” of individuals were charged with possession of small amounts of narcotics.
Deputy Police Inspector Søren Pejtersen noted the generally good behavior of participants, adding that police efforts focused on visible presence and prevention, which they believe had a positive effect. He also mentioned a high degree of tolerance was shown given the festive nature of the event.
The carnival parade experienced a disruption in Vestbyen when one of the leading floats stalled shortly after the start. Police and carnival staff worked together to guide participants to side streets during this incident. While the situation may have frightened some participants, no personal injuries were reported.
Police will continue to patrol Aalborg and maintain a visible presence throughout the night until Sunday.
