The Aalborg Carnival, Scandinavia’s largest, concluded its 43rd edition with a generally positive atmosphere, despite a few minor incidents. North Jutland Police reported the event, which attracts around 100,000 visitors annually, saw mostly good behavior from participants.
Eight arrests were made during the carnival, primarily for minor offenses such as public order violations, intoxication, and a few instances of violence. According to authorities, all those arrested have since been released. Additionally, “a number” of individuals were charged with possession of small quantities of narcotics.
Deputy Police Inspector Søren Pejtersen noted the majority of participants contributed to a festive atmosphere. The police had implemented a significant and visible presence, along with temporary surveillance, emphasizing prevention and tolerance throughout the day.
However, the carnival parade experienced a disruption when one of the leading floats stalled in Vestbyen shortly after the start. This occurred amidst a large crowd, prompting police and carnival staff to redirect participants to side streets. While the situation may have caused alarm for those in close proximity, no personal injuries have been reported.
Police patrols will continue throughout Aalborg during the night until Sunday to maintain visibility and ensure public safety.
