AaB has terminated the contracts of head coach Kristoffer Wichmann and sporting director James Gow following the club’s relegation from the Superliga. The decision comes after a disappointing season that saw the team fail to secure enough points in crucial matches.
Chairman Jan Peters announced the changes, citing a difference in vision for the future as a key factor. “We were not successful on the field,” Peters stated, emphasizing the need for a new direction. Wichmann’s tenure began on April 23, with a contract extending until the summer of 2027, after replacing Menno van Dam with only five games remaining in the relegation play-offs.
Gow, who joined AaB in October 2023 and assumed the role of sporting director in the summer of 2024, is also departing. Peters acknowledged the mistakes made during their 12 months of majority ownership by Sports Strategy Excellence 22 (SSE22).
“I take all the responsibility for what has happened,” Peters admitted, while assuring supporters that the decisions were made with careful consideration. SSE22, a German investment group led by Peters, initially invested in AaB in March 2023 and later acquired a majority stake in the spring of 2024 with an investment of DKK 45 million.
