The AaB fan association, Vesttribunen, has publicly called for the departure of the club’s German co-owners, SSE22, following a tumultuous season marked by relegation and organizational upheaval. The demand was issued in a strongly worded Facebook post on Monday evening.
The fans’ discontent stems from a season that saw AaB relegated from the Superligaen, the firing of two coaches, and the departure of the sporting director. Vesttribunen expressed deep regret for initially trusting in SSE22’s vision and methods when they invested in the Aalborg club two years ago.
The fan association accuses SSE22 of failing to understand AaB’s significance as a cultural institution. They pointed to the major shareholder’s initial use of an “outdated” and “incorrect” logo as evidence of their lack of familiarity with the club.
Vesttribunen has outlined a comprehensive strategy to push SSE22 out of the club. They are bracing for a protracted and challenging effort to regain control of AaB.
The fan association pledged to intensify efforts to remove SSE22 from power and erase the “stain of shame” for ever welcoming them and believing in their “empty promises.” SSE22, short for Sports Strategy Excellence 22, acquired a stake in AaB in March 2023.
