FC Copenhagen Sells Victor Froholdt to FC Porto for a Historically High Transfer Fee

FC Copenhagen has sold midfielder Victor Froholdt to FC Porto for a historically high transfer fee, a move that will positively impact the club’s annual accounts by DKK 137 million. The transfer agreement, which runs until the summer of 2030, could reach DKK 165 million if certain bonus conditions are met.

The decision to sell Froholdt was difficult, according to Sporting Director Sune Smith-Nielsen, as the 19-year-old was considered a key player. Smith-Nielsen stated that while he desired to maintain squad continuity, Froholdt’s strong desire for a change of scenery, coupled with the significant transfer fee, led to the agreement. He acknowledged the timing was not ideal, given the start of the Superliga season and Champions League qualifying matches, but emphasized the financial responsibility of accepting such a substantial offer.

Froholdt himself acknowledged the difficulty in leaving FC Copenhagen but expressed his motivation for a new challenge in Southern Europe. He credited his development to the football education he received at FCK and expressed hope to return to the club in the future.

Coach Jacob Neestrup echoed the sentiment of annoyance at losing a young player so quickly, yet praised Froholdt’s rapid development and expressed confidence in his success at Porto. He highlighted Froholdt’s unique skillset and his importance to FC Copenhagen throughout 2025.
