The National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) will notify individuals whose personal identification numbers (CPR) were compromised in a case involving a former Copenhagen Municipality employee charged with illegal data access. This announcement comes directly from the police unit to Ritzau.
Over the coming weeks, affected individuals will receive information regarding the data breach and updates on the ongoing case. The NSK will provide guidance to those impacted by the situation.
Last Wednesday, a 27-year-old former employee of the Municipality of Copenhagen appeared in Copenhagen City Court for a preliminary hearing.
The charges against him include abusing his position to unlawfully access the CPR numbers of 1,742 individuals with the intent to sell the information. He is also accused of being an accessory to the attempted extortion of 66 people and an attempted murder.
According to the indictment, the man allegedly shared CPR information of the 66 individuals targeted for extortion and the intended murder victim in exchange for payment.
During the hearing, the accused admitted to illegally accessing the data of the 1,742 individuals but denied involvement in the attempted extortion and attempted murder. He has been detained for four weeks.
