Elderly Danes Increasingly Concerned About Climate Change Impact

A recent report reveals a significant increase in concern about climate change among elderly Danes. The survey highlights a growing awareness and willingness to act across generations to ensure a green transition.

More than half of Danes over 60 express concern about the consequences of climate change, a substantial increase from 28 percent in 2022. This shift indicates a narrowing of the generation gap in climate attitudes, with older generations increasingly sharing concerns previously held primarily by younger individuals.

Younger generations continue to show high levels of concern, with 77 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds expressing worry about climate change. This sustained concern, combined with the rising awareness among older demographics, is seen as a potential catalyst for increased climate action.

The Red-Green Youth see the growing concern among older generations as a sign of hope and a potential source of pressure on the government to take action. They point to examples like joint climate demonstrations with groups like Grandparents Climate Action as evidence that the climate fight is not solely a generational issue.

The survey also indicates a broad willingness among Danes to engage in municipal climate action, with nine out of ten expressing interest. Furthermore, three out of four are open to having energy facilities located near their homes, and over half are prepared to reduce their consumption, demonstrating a general commitment to addressing climate change.
