A payment system failure significantly disrupted the Grøn Koncert event in Aarhus on Saturday evening, impacting attendees’ ability to make purchases. The disruption, caused by a Nets system breakdown, affected the event from 7:00 PM until its close at 9:30 PM.
Theis Petersen, head of fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, the organizer of Grøn Koncert, described the situation as “catastrophic.” The festival was largely cashless, which compounded the payment difficulties.
An emergency plan was implemented, allowing staff to process physical card payments to some extent. Guests with MobilePay were also able to make payments through that platform after a conversion process. However, Petersen noted that these alternative methods were not as efficient as the normal payment system.
The payment issues meant that some attendees were unable to buy anything later in the evening because they had no means to pay. Despite the problems, Petersen praised the audience’s patience and understanding. He acknowledged that the situation was beyond anyone’s control.
