A man wearing a Coop supermarket shirt has been remanded in custody until August 12 after police discovered a kilogram of cocaine in the trunk of his car. The arrest occurred on Tuesday at 10:40 AM in Højby.
The discovery coincided with a larger investigation into cocaine found hidden among bananas in several Coop stores across West Zealand and North Zealand.
During the court hearing in Holbæk on Wednesday, the 37-year-old man confirmed his arrest. However, his defense attorney stated that he was unaware the substance was cocaine, leading to a plea of not guilty regarding the cocaine charge. He did admit to possessing approximately 60 grams of hashish at his residence.
It remains unclear whether the cocaine found in the car trunk is connected to the larger shipment discovered in the Coop stores.
The judge granted the prosecutor’s request to close the doors to the public to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
If charged and convicted, the man could face a substantial prison sentence. Prosecutors typically seek around five years of imprisonment for cases involving a kilogram of cocaine.
