Police Investigate Suspected Druggings at Sønderborg Ring Riding Festival

South and Sønderjylland Police are investigating six reports of suspected drugging incidents following the recent ring riding festival in Sønderborg. Five women and one man reported feeling ill after consuming drinks at the festival, leading them to suspect they were drugged.

The incidents occurred over several days of the festival. Some individuals reported feeling unwell on Friday evening, while others experienced symptoms on Saturday, Saturday night, Sunday night, or Monday evening.

Police have noted common features in the reports and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding each case. They are also awaiting the results of blood tests taken, or planned to be taken, from the affected individuals.

One case involved a 36-year-old woman who reported that she and her friends shared a table with a group of unknown men. The woman accepted a draft beer offered by the men and began feeling ill shortly after drinking it.

The other individuals who reported suspected drugging include a 32-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman, a 39-year-old woman, and a 60-year-old man.

Drugging in nightlife environments typically involves someone adding a substance to another person’s drink without their knowledge. Ring riding festivals have a long tradition in Sønderborg, dating back to the 19th century, and are a common cultural event in several towns in South Jutland.
