Brøndby is looking to expand its roster with Japanese talent following the successful transfer of Yuito Suzuki to Freiburg. Football director Benjamin Schmedes aims to leverage the club’s increased recognition in Japan to attract promising players. Kotaro Uchino, 21, and Sho Fukuda, 24, have already been signed and could potentially debut in the Superliga match against Silkeborg.
Schmedes believes that Suzuki’s success has made Brøndby an attractive destination for Japanese players seeking to develop in Europe and move to bigger clubs. The club hopes to replicate Suzuki’s development and profit from future transfers.
FC Copenhagen has also joined the trend, acquiring central defender Junnosuke Suzuki this summer. Prior to these recent signings, only four Japanese players have played in the Superliga: Yuito Suzuki (Brøndby), Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (FC Nordsjælland), Masaki Murata (Vejle), and Suguru Hashimoto (Vejle).
