Firefighters are continuing to battle lingering embers within the Skagen Dune Plantation, which was ravaged by fire earlier this week. Incident commander Bo Isaksen from the North Jutland Emergency Services confirmed the ongoing efforts.
The emergency services are using drone technology equipped with thermal cameras to identify these remaining hotspots. When smoldering areas are detected, firefighters are dispatched to douse the flames with water.
The initial fire ignited on Monday afternoon and was initially reported to be under control later that day. However, the blaze reignited on Tuesday afternoon, prompting the need for reinforcements from three fire stations in North Jutland. Firebreaks were successfully established to prevent further spread.
A team of 20 firefighters maintained watch over the area Wednesday evening and through the night into Thursday. Fresh personnel, drawn from both municipal emergency services and the Emergency Management Agency, are scheduled to arrive on Thursday morning.
Isaksen expressed that the persistence of the fire is not unexpected, given the size of the affected area and the nature of the vegetation. While other regions have experienced substantial rainfall, Skagen has received minimal precipitation, hindering firefighting efforts.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. No injuries have been reported.
