PostNord Focus on Parcels in Denmark Proves Successful

PostNord’s strategic shift to focus exclusively on parcel post in Denmark is yielding positive financial results, with the company reporting a significant turnaround in profitability for the first half of 2025. The decision, made in March, appears to be well-timed as letter volumes decline while parcel deliveries surge.

The Danish business, previously a financial burden, contributed a profit of DKK 86 million to the overall operating result, a stark contrast to the loss of over DKK 750 million during the same period last year.

For the first six months of the year, PostNord achieved an operating profit of SEK 451 million, a substantial improvement compared to the loss of SEK 336 million in the first half of 2024.

Despite a six percent decrease in total revenue to SEK 17.8 billion, the group’s operations are now profitable.

In Denmark, letter volumes experienced a significant drop of 34 percent in the second quarter compared to the previous year.

Conversely, the number of parcels increased by 12 percent, highlighting the growing demand in this area.

“The accounts underline that we have adopted the right strategy, which is now beginning to show in the figures,” says Kim Pedersen, CEO of PostNord Denmark.

“At the same time as we are winding down our letter business, we continue to strengthen our position in the parcel market and become even better for the benefit of our customers,” Pedersen added.

PostNord is jointly owned by the Danish and Swedish states, with Sweden holding 60 percent and Denmark owning the remaining 40 percent.
