East Jutland Police conducted raids on two addresses Thursday morning in Aarhus N and Trige in connection with a Danish citizen suspected of spying for Iran in Germany. The 53-year-old man, recently extradited to Germany, is accused of gathering information on Jewish people and locations in Berlin.
The searches were executed at the request of German police, although no arrests were made during the raids. The suspect is believed to have been acting on orders from an Iranian intelligence service.
The 53-year-old allegedly collected information about Jewish targets in Berlin, potentially to prepare for terrorist attacks. He reportedly spied on three properties in June.
The case originated from intelligence provided by the German intelligence service BfV, and the Federal Criminal Police Office BKA is managing the police investigation.
The suspect was initially taken into custody following a closed preliminary hearing in Aarhus on June 26 and consented to extradition. He was handed over to German police on Monday.
German media reports indicate the 53-year-old man has an Afghan background. His arrest was a collaborative effort with the Police Intelligence Service (PET) based on a German arrest warrant. East Jutland Police has deferred further comments to German authorities.
