A 24-year-old man has been arrested on the Danish island of Funen for allegedly possessing and distributing a hand grenade. The suspect was remanded in custody on Thursday following a hearing in Odense.
The charges stem from alleged messages sent via the Signal communication service in May, where the man purportedly referred to a hand grenade as an “apple.”
The indictment suggests that the suspect offered to carry out a criminal act for a fee. Allegedly, throwing an “apple” into a shop or home could be done for 100,000 kroner, while other targets had a price of 200,000 kroner.
Despite the implications of the messages, the 24-year-old is not currently charged with carrying out an attack.
The charges are specifically for possession and transfer of at least one hand grenade, allegations which the man denies.
Prosecutor Cecilie Quist confirmed that the court ordered the man to be detained for four weeks while the investigation continues.
