Torrential Rain Affects 22 Municipalities in Denmark

Torrential rain has struck 22 municipalities across Denmark, prompting weather warnings and forecasts of continued unsettled weather for the coming weeks. The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) reported the widespread rainfall, with some areas experiencing double torrential rain.

The affected municipalities span Jutland, Zealand, and other regions. In Jutland, the municipalities include Skive, Vesthimmerland, Viborg, Varde, Silkeborg, Favrskov, Fredericia, Morsø, Ringkøbing-Skjern, Vejle, Randers, and Hedensted. On Zealand, Faxe, Ringsted, Køge, Stevns, Odsherred, Holbæk, Roskilde, and Sorø have been impacted. Additionally, Odense Municipality and Lolland Municipality have also experienced torrential rain.

DMI defines torrential rain as 15 millimeters of precipitation within half an hour. On Tuesday afternoon, areas near Langø in Nakskov Fjord on Lolland and Tessebølle south of Køge recorded double torrential rain, with 36.4 and 34.6 millimeters falling in half an hour, respectively.

A category 1 “violent weather” warning for heavy rain and torrential downpours is in effect from Tuesday at 6:00 PM to Wednesday at 6:00 AM. DMI advises residents to be aware of how the weather could impact their surroundings and outdoor activities.

Looking ahead, DMI forecasts slightly or somewhat above-average precipitation for weeks 30, 31, and 32. The forecast suggests unstable weather with showers, rain, and thunder. Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures are predicted to range between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Week 30 is expected to be more variable, with rain, showers, and sunny periods. The subsequent two weeks are likely to see a mix of sunshine and rain.
