A 27-year-old man has partially admitted in court to unauthorized access of personal data belonging to 1,742 individuals. The man, a former employee of the Municipality of Copenhagen, appeared in a preliminary hearing at the Copenhagen City Court.
He is accused of using his position to gain access to the CPR (Civil Personal Registration) information. He simultaneously denies charges of complicity in extortion and attempted murder.
The man was arrested Wednesday morning and brought before the court the same day. The preliminary hearing is being held behind closed doors to protect the ongoing investigation.
The indictment against the 27-year-old consists of three counts. The first alleges unauthorized access to the personal data of 1,742 people under particularly aggravating circumstances, which he partially admits to. The details of the partial admission were not disclosed before the court closed the hearing to the public.
He is also charged with making entries in the CPR register that were used for the purpose of extorting 66 people and attempting to murder one individual. He denies these charges.
