Leon Madsen is set to compete in the Grand Prix Challenge in Holsted this August, seeking to secure a spot in next year’s World Championship series. The experienced speedway rider has received a wildcard entry to the event, where 16 riders will battle for four coveted tickets to the sport’s most prestigious competition.
Madsen emphasizes his clear goal of returning to the world elite, stating, “It will be a big night, and I come with one thing in mind – to qualify back for the Grand Prix series… I want back in the world elite. I have proven that I still belong.”
Joining Madsen in the Holsted qualifying final are fellow Danish riders Rasmus Jensen, Michael Jepsen Jensen, and Anders Thomsen, all of whom earned their places through preliminary events.
Despite a history of strong performances, Madsen is currently serving as the first reserve in this season’s World Championship series. Denmark is primarily represented by Mikkel Michelsen and Anders Thomsen.
Madsen previously showcased his capabilities as a reserve, achieving a third-place finish in Prague, behind Bartosz Zmarzlik and Fredrik Lindgren, which marked the best Danish result of the season thus far.
Throughout his career, the 36-year-old Madsen has secured four Grand Prix victories and twice finished as the overall runner-up in the World Championship series.
Prior to this season, Madsen identified the European Championship series as a primary objective, with the overall winner also gaining automatic entry into the following year’s World Championship series. In the first of four European Championship events, Madsen finished in eighth place.
