Thisted City Hall will remain closed for the entirety of week 22 due to soot and smoke damage resulting from an arson attempt Sunday night. According to a Facebook post by Thisted Municipality, a fire was started in the foyer after a paving stone was thrown through the main entrance.
Midt- and Vestjyllands Politi arrested a suspect in connection with the incident Sunday afternoon. The individual was apprehended at 1:40 PM and is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday. While Duty Officer Anders Bøje Hansen declined to release specific details about the suspect’s identity, he stated that the arrest leads them to believe that they have solved the case.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but not before causing damage throughout the building. Mikkel Alstrup, head of IT, digitization, and Citizen Services at Thisted Municipality, confirmed the extent of the damage to TV Midtvest.
Citizens with scheduled appointments at Citizen Services in the coming week will be notified of cancellations via SMS. The municipality advises individuals with urgent passport, MitID, or driver’s license needs to contact them directly. Despite the attack on a democratic institution, authorities believe this was an isolated incident and do not anticipate further threats to the public.
