Danish rapper Gilli, whose real name is Kian Rosenberg Larsson, faces charges of gross tax evasion, accused of evading approximately 3.3 million DKK in taxes between 2015 and 2018. The case is being investigated under section 289(1) of the Penal Code, which addresses particularly serious tax evasion and carries a potential prison sentence of up to eight years.
The police initiated their investigation in 2021. Gilli’s defense lawyer, Kaspar Lehmann Bastian, requested a name ban, but the Court in Glostrup denied the request on Tuesday. This decision has been appealed to the Eastern High Court.
Gilli pleads not guilty to the charges. According to his defense attorney, neither he nor his client will comment on the case.
Gilli is a prominent figure in the Danish music scene, gaining widespread recognition after the 2014 release of his EP “Ækte vare,” which was created for the film of the same name. His popularity has steadily grown, and in 2021, he became the first Danish artist to reach one billion streams exclusively within Denmark.
For the past six years, Gilli has consistently been the most streamed Danish artist on Spotify. He has also headlined at Roskilde Festival in recent years, performing solo in 2024 and as part of the duo Kenny this year. He currently resides in Portugal.
