Samsung Launches Thinnest Foldable Phone on the Danish Market

Samsung has unveiled its new foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold7, claiming it is the thinnest foldable phone available on the Danish market. The device, announced on Wednesday and set to launch on July 25th, boasts a thickness of just 8.9 millimeters when folded.

This marks a significant reduction in size compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold6, which measured 12.1 millimeters. According to Torben Vognsen, an editor at input.dk, this improved thickness is crucial for the market performance of foldable phones.

The new Galaxy Z Fold7 is only 0.6 millimeters thicker than a regular iPhone, bringing it close to the slim profile of traditional smartphones. Vognsen believes that the previous bulkiness of foldable phones has been a deterrent for consumers, and this reduction in size addresses that concern.

While Samsung currently leads the foldable phone market, Google is expected to challenge its dominance with the launch of its next foldable phone in August. Vognsen anticipates further advancements in thinness but acknowledges the limitations imposed by the need to accommodate the battery and electronics.

A persistent criticism of foldable phones has been the visible crease in the screen where it folds. Vognsen hopes that the new Samsung device will minimize this issue.

He believes that eliminating the crease would remove a major barrier to consumer adoption, leaving only the high price as a potential drawback. The most expensive model of the Galaxy Z Fold7 is priced at DKK 19,999.

Last August, Google entered the Danish foldable phone market with the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, launched at a price of DKK 16,000. The competition in the foldable phone market is intensifying as tech companies strive to create thinner, more appealing devices.
